Club Program

July 2010
This month's presentation will be by our own Angus and the topic will be Odd and Curious Money. A number of things have been used or manufactured as money and Angus will share his insights on the subject. It's sure to be good!

July 2010
Our Annual Anniversary Luncheon is scheduled for the July Meeting. I need to have the number of people attending by 14 July so that the caterer knows how many will be attending. The cost will be $9 and that includes the luncheon, drinks, and tip. D.W. is coordinating with the caterer and J.P. will be taking sign-ups. You can contact J.P. via e-mail or by phone. You can also sign up by mail at the club P.O. Box (shown on the main page), and J.P. will check it on the 14th. Since this is our monthly event I would also suggest that anyone with Show and Tell items bring them to this meeting as we will have plenty of time for discussion and display. J.P. will have a couple items of his own, just for fun!

June 2010
This month's program will be on the topic of the Pro's and Con's of Certified (i.e. Slabbed) Coins. You may have noticed that some of our door prizes lately have been slabbed coins and given the recent changes in the certification industry I thought it would be a useful and topical subject.

May 2010
This month's program will be our annual Club Picnic. We had an excellent time last year and I'm sure this year will be the same.

April 2010
This month's program will be the Super Auction

March 2010
This month's program will be presented by Bill Calvert. The topic will be "Early Coinage by U.S. Mints". Angus Bruce arranged for Bill to speak and I am sure it will be an excellent presentation! Thank You, Bill in advance!

February 2010
A presentation was made by our own Angus Bruce and the subject was called "Operation Crossroads". It covered nuclear testings in the South Pacific, specifically at the Kwajelein Islands and the Bikini Atolls. It was very informative with exceptional photo's and examples of "short snorter" notes from the locale and events. He also had examples of the types of ration tickets used by the ship's crews while on liberty ashore to purchase beer. It was an outstanding presentation and greatly appreciated. Thank You, Angus!

January 2010
A presentation was made by Sue Tatosian of The Western Center for Archeology and Paleontology. It was an excellent presentation and covered the exhibits that are permanently at the Center plus the exhibits that have been shown on a rotating basis in the past. She also gave an overview of the current rotating exhibits. The center is very focused on sustainable resources and Sue presented a slide show of both the center itself and the sustainable features of the Center. In addition, she also had displays of a Sabre Tooth cat skull and a comparison domestic cat skull. An excellent presentation and much appreciated by the club. Yearly memberships, that allow access to both the regular exhibits and the special exhibits are $60 for a family and $25 for individuals.

December 2009
The main focus for December will be the installation of the new officers and turnover duties. We will also have a shortened business meeting prior to the Luncheon scheduled for approximately noon.

November 2009
I had a guest speaker arranged for the November meeting scheduled but due to the holiday commitments of his business he had to cancel just as I was doing this newsletter. I have attempted to find a replacement speaker however the Holiday season is pretty tight for speakers. If anyone knows of a speaker or has a special interest of their own that they would like to speak about Please! Call me. With the agenda we have for November, (Officer Elections, Show and Tell, and our usual Auction) we have plenty to keep us occupied but I would still prefer a speaker if possible. I will keep trying until meeting day and maybe I can come up with something but any help would be greatly appreciated!

October 2009
October is our annual White Elephant sale! This is our big money maker for the club and I hope everyone pitches in with items to sell. We are looking for quality items that you aren't using or are willing to donate to support the club. Last years sale was a big success and really helped our balance sheet. Also you can support the club by appearing and bidding on the items donated. I bought a number of items last year and probably will again this year. By the way this is also a lot of fun! Check your garages and closets and let's have a good sale!

September 2009
There will be no specific program for Sept. due to the Ice Cream Social, however, There will be a couple of things left over from the ANA that weren't shown last time. There should be Show and Tell items to keep us diehard collectors entertained. There is also a rumour about that there may be an appearance by my wife with our current CCI puppy in training but that has yet to be confirmed!

August 2009
Jim gave a lecture on the LA Federal Reserve Bank tour that he attended as part of the ANA convention plus an overview of the convention itself as the monthly topic.
